Project Overview

The County of Monterey (County) is embarking on an effort to develop its Community Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CCAAP) for 2030 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the targets set by the State of California. The CCAAP is identified by the County’s 2010 General Plan as a mitigation measure in the Final Environmental Impact Report and is intended to be an opportunity for robust stakeholder engagement amongst the various sectors of the county to select strategies that are the most cost-effective and beneficial for the County in meeting its emissions reduction targets.

The first phase of CCAAP development will require: 1) identifying opportunities for deep cuts in emissions through a collaborative effort amongst stakeholders; and, 2) creating a pragmatic yet innovative vision for the future.

Monterey County is both a coastal and agricultural community and faces serious potential impacts from a changing climate. The county also includes spectacular environmental oases and is responsible for producing large quantities of the nation’s fresh vegetables and fruits. What impacts the Monterey Bay region will impact the country. Through evidence-based research and expertise, deep stakeholder engagement, and a focus on inclusion and diversity, the CCAAP will incorporate meaningful and customized solutions and inspire strategic programmatic action.

Community Engagement Overview

The County is seeking input on the development of the CCAAP from many stakeholder groups. The link below provides an overview of the groups and how their feedback will inform the process.
